General waste (green lid)

General waste is sent to Kwinana's Energy Recovery Facility, where waste is thermally treated and used to create renewable energy.
Recycling (yellow lid)
Schedule: Collected fortnightly
Preparation: Rinse containers. Keep items loose, not bagged.

Recyclables are sent to South Guildford's Material Recovery Facility, where items are sorted and made into new products.
If you are unable to move your bins to the kerb due to disability or illness, our drivers can collect them from your property and return them for you.
To apply for this service, residents must submit a written request to the City, accompanied by a letter of support from a general practitioner or medical doctor.
Once the service is approved, a representative from Cleanaway will contact you to confirm the agreed bin collection location.

Residents with low vision can request tactile bin lids that feature hot-stamped shapes (squares for general waste and triangles for recycling) to help identify their bins.

Residents with access needs can request a star sticker that will signal to truck drivers that a bin should be returned to the same location after collection.

Bins are collected on all public holidays except Christmas Day.
In 2026, Christmas Day falls on a Friday - if this is your usual collection day, it will be delayed by one day.
Changes to the bin collection schedule
All services will resume as normal on your usual collection day from Monday, 28 December 2026.

Why wasn't my bin collected?
Drivers may refuse to empty bins if they cannot be lifted safely or accessed by the truck arm.
If your bin was placed correctly and we missed it, let us know immediately so we can arrange a return pickup.

This incurs the standard rubbish service charge and will also be billed through an Interim Rates Notice.
Residents can request changes to their bin services, including additional bins, upgrades, or downgrades.

Requests must be made by the ratepayer or managing agent. All charges are applied via an Interim Rates Notice.
Please note: Only bins displaying a City‑issued sticker will be serviced. Bins without an authorised sticker will not be collected.

Bins are strategically located in public spaces where waste is generated and where infrastructure is needed to manage waste effectively.
Note: It is an offence to place household waste in council bins located in parks or reserves. Offenders may be subject to a $400 fine. If you witness or can provide evidence of a waste dumping incident, please contact the City at [email protected] or call (08) 9550 3777.
