Mandurah Museum offers Museum Boxes for schools, early learning centres, community groups, care facilities, and home educators to borrow free of charge.

Please note: Due to high demand, these resources are only available to those located within the City of Mandurah.

Educator information

The Museum Boxes are designed as flexible resources to support classroom learning, home education, and community programs. They can be used:

  • As a stand-alone learning activity- perfect for use in the classroom, home or community setting
  • Before an excursion or museum visit – to introduce key themes and spark curiosity
  • After an excursion or museum visit – to reinforce learning, encourage reflection, and extend activities

Each box contains original or replica objects, along with supporting information such as indexes, descriptions, photographs, and instructions. The resources are designed to:

  • Encourage hands-on, inquiry-based learning
  • Develop historical skills, including questioning, comparing, analysing, and hypothesising
  • Support the Australian Curriculum: History (where applicable) through exploring concepts of continuity and change, cause and effect, perspectives, empathy, and significance
  • Cater to a wide range of learners, from early years through to Secondary students or community participants

Educators can use the Museum Boxes for:

  • Group discussions and guided inquiry
  • Small group investigations – examining and reporting on individual objects
  • Creative responses – drawing, storytelling, or drama activities inspired by the objects
  • Critical thinking tasks – comparing past and present, or predicting future changes

These resources are free to borrow and are available for 3 weeks (subject to availability).
